Antiquing or “junking” is my idea of therapy. I have always had a heart for anything vintage and it reflects in most of my work as a designer, where I love to use vintage textures, colors, typography, and images. I draw inspiration browsing through rows of old treasures, and I’m not talking about a “be careful not to break anything” store, but a “do I need a tetanus shot” kind of place. The more rust, the better!
This weekend was the “Big Lick Antique Festival” 5 miles away in Oakboro, NC. We ventured out early this morning, with my 2 fellas by my side. Roy made a bee-line for a toy bank/safe he spotted immediately and just had to have. He’s been obsessing about counting all his piggy bank money lately, so much so that I’ve been calling him “Ebenezer”, so the safe was a perfect find.
We browsed around another couple of hours, Roy took a pony ride, and then we spotted some hand-painted, vintage style wooden signs. We picked up one as a Mother’s Day gift for my Mother in Law and one for me…a “Lake Winnipesaukee” sign. Not sure, why but it was love at first sight and we took it home. Happy Mother’s Day to me!
